- Third-party apps are cheap and their question banks are huge, but their AI scores are estimates. APEUni VIP costs US$15.99 for 30 days, and Gurully Prime starts at US$9 for 7 days. None of them uses Pearson's scoring engine.

Official Pearson options
Scored Practice Tests (paid)
Pearson describes this as "the only practice test to use the official PTE Academic scoring engine and criteria." It's a full two-hour test, and you get a score report with an overall score, the four communicative skills and six enabling skills, usually within a day (Pearson shop). You can choose from three versions, all built in 2025 for the updated test. Each version has fixed questions, so buying the same version twice gets you the same test (Pearson).
- Single test: US$35.99. Pearson charges in USD and your bank sets the AUD conversion.
- Bundles listed on 10 Oct 2026: US$59.99 and US$89.99. The US$59.99 bundle includes 1 Scored Practice Test plus bonus material. The US$89.99 bundle has 2 tests, 1 month of AI Practice and the Official Guide. The Official Guide page also lists a top bundle with 3 tests, AI Practice, the Guide and the Expert Self-Study Course, but no price for it is shown on the page.
Unscored practice tests (free)
Pearson's free Smart Prep account has five Guided Practice Tests for PTE Academic: one short, condensed version of the exam and four tests focused on individual skills, with sample answers and feedback (Pearson Smart Prep). They aren't scored by the engine. They're for learning how the test works.
Official PTE Academic AI Practice (free to start)
This is Pearson's newer product. The free version includes one Speaking and Writing diagnostic, one Reading and Listening diagnostic, and several Reading and Listening questions. The paid version adds 15 full mock tests, 20 sectional tests, 1,000+ official questions and an "AI Tutor". The page doesn't list paid prices; the price is shown at checkout. It's a one-off payment, not a subscription. You can take each mock only once, but you can repeat the individual questions (Pearson AI Practice).
Official Guide and the Expert Self-Study Course
The Official Guide to PTE Academic is US$19.99. It's an eBook only, with 20 videos and 300 practice questions, and you get 24 months of access (Pearson). The Expert Self-Study Course (B1 or B2) is listed inside Pearson's top bundle. We couldn't find a standalone price for it, and we couldn't confirm a separate "Pearson English Online" product for PTE in 2026.
Is there an official PTE app?
We couldn't find an official Pearson PTE Academic practice app on Google Play or the App Store as of 10 Oct 2026. Pearson's practice products run in the browser through myPTE.
Watch out: only buy Pearson products through pearsonpte.com or shop.mypte.pearsonpte.com.
Third-party platforms and apps
All of these use their own AI scoring. None of them is Pearson's engine. Accuracy claims like Alfa's "95% accuracy" come from the companies themselves, and we found no independent audit of any of them.
APEUni
- Free tier: yes. The app is free to download and its listing says you can "freely practice with thousands of questions". We couldn't confirm the exact limits on free AI scoring.
- Paid: VIP is US$15.99 for 30 days, US$33.99 for 90 days and US$74.99 for 180 days. There's also a Reading Course at US$17.99 for 90 days (US App Store).
- Has: "thousands" of practice questions, mock tests, AI scoring, a community, mobile apps, and a Telegram group (t.me/pteapeuni, linked from its store listing).
- Rating: 4.6 from about 9.3K reviews on Google Play, and 4.6 from 266 ratings on the US App Store.
- What reviewers say: one App Store reviewer who scored 84 said the app's marking is "a bit strict". A Google Play reviewer said the keyboard covers the essay field on mobile.
Alfa PTE
- Free tier: yes. You get 5 AI score checks a day for Speaking, Reading and Listening, 3 one-time Writing checks, 1 full mock and 1 sectional mock, with no card needed (Alfa pricing).
- Paid: one Premium plan in 10, 30, 60 or 90-day lengths. The prices don't appear in the page text, so check the site.
- Has: a 20,000-question bank, full, sectional and custom mocks, and prediction files.
- Rating: 4.8 from about 3.9K reviews on Google Play.
Gurully
- Free tier: 1 full scored mock, 5 speaking AI checks a day and 3 one-time writing checks.
- Paid: Prime starts at US$9 for 7 days, with plans up to 60 days, unlimited mocks and AI scoring (Gurully pricing). We couldn't read the prices of the longer plans in the page text, so check the site. Plans don't auto-renew.
- Has: 30,000+ questions and, by Gurully's own count, 150+ full PTE mocks, plus Android and iOS apps.
- Rating: Trustpilot.com showed 4.1 from 23 reviews when we checked (65% five-star, 26% one-star). The 5.0 from "442 reviews" on Gurully's homepage doesn't name a source, so we haven't used it.
- What users say: on Trustpilot, several reviewers call the mock tests realistic. Negative reviews mention speech not being recognised on short-answer questions, incomplete mock tests and refund disputes.
Language Academy (LA)
- Paid: the app's listing says you can start free and upgrade to Silver or Gold. LA doesn't publish prices on the pages we found, and its NSW coaching page says programs are customised ("contact us"). LA's YouTube channel offers a free mock test with a scorecard.
- Has: an app with AI-scored mocks.
- Rating: 4.6 from about 14.6K reviews on Google Play. Cancelling a subscription is a recurring complaint.
PTE Tutorials
- Free: the app (now listed as "PTE/IELTS Practice & AI Tutor") is free to download with in-app purchases.
- Paid: "Super AI" is A$24.99 on the AU App Store. The listing doesn't state how long it lasts. Other in-app purchases include AI Practice Minutes and Pro Plans.
- Rating: 4.5 from about 7.7K reviews on Google Play, and 4.5 from 1.3K ratings on the AU App Store.
PTE Magic
- Paid: the app's question bank costs A$29 for 30 days, A$49 for 60, A$69 for 90 and A$109 for 180 (AU App Store). Online courses run A$259 to A$899 at current sale prices (PTE Magic).
- Rating: 3.0 from 2 ratings on the AU App Store. That's too few to mean much.
E2Language (now E2 Test Prep)
- Paid: Express US$75.90, Express+ US$97.90, Bronze US$185.90, Silver US$273.90 and Gold US$394.90. These Australian prices include GST, and students outside Australia pay less: Express is US$69 (E2 support).
- Free: live classes come with every package. A Trustpilot reviewer mentions using a free trial, but the package page doesn't describe one.
- Has: video lessons, tutorials, teacher-marked feedback on the higher tiers, and partial AI scoring.
- Rating: 4.6 from 361 reviews on Trustpilot.
- What reviewers say: one detailed review praised the teaching but said some tasks have no AI scoring. That reviewer scored 57 on E2's mock and 79 on the real test.
One Australia, Dream English, Vision Language Experts
These are mostly coaching providers that also run portals.
- One Australia runs online PTE coaching for Perth students; its listed campuses are in Victoria and NSW. Its PTE plans run from A$399 for four weeks to A$899 for 12 months, with AI mocks on its MockMaster.ai platform (One Australia pricing). We didn't verify a rating.
- Dream English publishes these price bands: under A$100 for self-study, A$150 for video courses, A$400 to A$500 for group classes and A$450 to A$750 for one-on-one (Dream English). It claims "1,000+ 5-Star Reviews", which we couldn't check independently.
- Vision Language Experts doesn't publish prices. It offers a free trial class and AI-scored mock tests, with branches in Sydney (Blacktown, Parramatta) and Melbourne (Vision). We didn't verify a rating.
BandLadder, PTEPilot and others
- BandLadder has a free tier: its pricing page (shown for IELTS when we loaded it) lists 2 speaking and 2 writing AI evaluations a day and 1 full mock. Paid plans run from 7 days to 3 months, priced in INR, but the amounts didn't appear in the page text (BandLadder). Rating: not found.
- PTEPilot gives you three free lifetime practice attempts after you verify your email, then paid plans with the final amount shown at checkout (PTEPilot). Rating: not found.
- PTE Classes, 1PTE and Mock Test PTE: we couldn't verify pricing, features or ratings on 10 Oct 2026, so we've left them out rather than guess.
Free methods that work
YouTube
Subscriber counts are from Socialcounts.org, checked 10 Oct 2026:
- Language Academy PTE: about 592K
- E2 PTE: about 483K
- Vision Language Experts: about 28.5K
- APEUni also has a channel, but we couldn't verify its subscriber count.
Use these for strategy and templates. Remember that most of them exist to sell a course.
Reddit and communities
r/pte is a public PTE subreddit, but Reddit blocked our checks on 10 Oct 2026, so we couldn't verify its size or activity, or that of any other subreddit. APEUni runs a public Telegram group. We didn't name any Facebook groups or Discord servers because we couldn't verify their size.
Speak to your phone
There's no free official speaking scorer outside Pearson's free diagnostic, so build your own feedback loop:
- Record Read Aloud and Repeat Sentence on your phone's voice recorder. Listen back for pauses, restarts and "umm".
- Read the passage into a dictation tool like Google Docs voice typing or your phone keyboard's mic. If whole words come out wrong, a machine probably can't hear those words clearly either. This is a rough check on clarity, not a PTE score.
- Time yourself. A steady pace with no long gaps matters more than speed. There's more on this in our speaking section guide.
Write from Dictation lists and free mocks
Free practice questions come with the free tiers of APEUni, Alfa and Gurully. Our Write from Dictation strategy explains how to drill them. You can stack free scored attempts too: Pearson's two diagnostics, 1 full mock on Gurully, 1 full mock on Alfa and LA's free mock. That's five scored attempts for A$0.
Coaching: what it costs in Australia and Perth
From published price lists, checked 10 Oct 2026 (all A$):
- One Australia (online, Perth page): 4-week express course A$399, 6 months A$599, 12 months A$899 (source)

So for most Perth options, plan on about A$400 to A$900. The cheapest listed option was High Hopes' A$199 one-week crash course.
What real test-takers say
We read public reviews on Trustpilot, Google Play and the App Store. These are opinions, not data, but some patterns came up:
- App scores and real scores don't always match, in either direction. One APEUni App Store reviewer who scored 84 found the app's marking "a bit strict". A Gurully user said on its homepage that their mock score was 69 and their real score was 79. An E2 Trustpilot reviewer scored 57 on E2's mock and 79 on the real test.
- Use the official Scored Practice Test as your final check. Pearson says it's the only practice test scored by the official engine, and even Pearson says the result is "only an indicator".
- Practise on third-party apps and test on Pearson. Pearson itself suggests practising first and taking a Scored Practice Test closer to test day.
We also looked for Reddit threads on r/pte, but Reddit blocked our checks on 10 Oct 2026, so we haven't cited any threads here.
The takeaway: don't book your test because of one app's mock score. Look at the trend across several mocks and confirm it with an official one. If you keep losing marks in the same places, see our common mistakes guide.

Reddit blocked our checks, so we haven't cited Reddit threads. Prices are as published in the currency shown. We didn't convert USD to AUD because Pearson and the app stores leave the conversion to your bank. Ratings and review counts change daily. Where a figure came only from the provider itself, we say so. Where we couldn't verify a figure, we say "not found" rather than estimate. We didn't buy or test any paid product for this article. Is there a free official PTE practice test?
Yes. Pearson's free AI Practice tier includes two diagnostic tests, and Smart Prep has five free Guided Practice Tests (one short test and four skill tests). Only the paid Scored Practice Test (US$35.99) uses the official scoring engine.
How accurate is APEUni's scoring?
